Not all teens have earned respect and trust and some have betrayed it. All of you are operating on the assumption that all teens are saints and that is a very dangerous mentality to have. I keep things simple in my home. My children do not own or use a cell phone. I do not allow it. If I need to reach my children for some reason, be that at school or a friends house then they had better be where they say they are and be available to speak to me on a landline. If they are not where they tell me they are going to be then they have a serious problem on their hands. That's how it was done when I was a child and that is how it's done in my home. I see no reason to spend outrageous money to supply everyone in the household with a cell phone and unlimited access to every feature available under Gods blue sky, especially children. It is MY responsibility to provide what is NECESSARY for my childrens safety, health and well being. A cell phone does not meet that criteria.

i know that id b extremely ...ed if my parents did that to me and spyed on my texts. i have nothing to hide but its not the point - us teens need our privacy, and Lillith i agree with you completely. If my parents DID do that - itd just ... me off and make me want to do things to annoy them and make them mad, corryn, think ov bak to wen u wer my age, if u had a cellphone then, wud u want ur parents reading ur texts or whatever? no. its the principle of having our own privacy, if you go and invade it then its gonna make us angry and hide things from you. im glad my parents trust me with everything and give me privacy (with texts and everything) and because they do i wont ever do anything to make them not trust me.

Ray Jay and Corrynn: If you are the primary account holder for the cell phones of your children, you can inquire to your cell phone provider to see if they have an SMS-to-email utility that forwards all text messages to an email address.

Parents, lay off your kids with the spying, thats the kind of ... that drives them to do a bunch of acid, drive really fast, and generally call you ...ing ...s. If you deny them respect from the start without telling them they can work for respect then why would they even try to behave themselves? You should be eashamed and disgusted with yourself.

Wayne: To my knowledge, there are no consumer-level applications that can retrieve deleted text messages, but some cell phone repair companies may be able to help you in that regard. Just like data that is deleted from a computer hard drive, the information may leave remnants that are not completely erased.

Urmum: This is a carrier-specific question and it's something you might want to call customer service about. I know that some providers allow you to send short emails via SMS, but you need to put the messages under a very specific format.

Marcia: Deleted messages are more difficult to retrieve, but messages not yet sent might be found in a "drafts" or similarly named folder on your cell phone. Not all handsets keep unsent messages, though.
