Verizon Wireless Commercials: Can You Hear Me Now?

Who doesn't associate the, "Can you hear me now?" phrase with Verizon? You can also associate humor with Verizon's commercials, because though the spots do an excellent job of making viewers want what they have to offer, they also make them laugh. The characters are often relatable, the phrasing funny. You may not always hear, "Can you hear me now?" anymore, but you will hear the comedic touch and practical information that make Verizon commercials some of the most enjoyable to watch.

Friends and Family

Coaches

This Verizon Wireless commercial features an athletic young man who wants to be able to reach all of his coaches, no matter what network they have. And he can! He can call his head coach, nutrition coach, his English tutor, and more, just as long as he has a Nationwide Single Line plan with 900 minutes or more. Score! He can call his top five without using his minutes.

Family

There is also a Family SharePlan version of this plan. The Family Choices commercial shows a family wandering around, choosing their favorite people to add: golf buddies, cousins, best friends, and a beautiful woman whom a teen boy would love to add but unfortunately, she's unlisted. This Nationwide Family SharePlan requires at least 1400 minutes. Families can then call certain individuals without using their minutes.

Excellent Coverage

The Dead Zone

A couple walks into a car rental building late at night, greeted by a woman who asks if they know about the problems they've been having with Internet services not working. She asks her co-worker to show them where it's failing and he waves his hand over the whole map. The couple responds with, "We have Verizon." In comes the Verizon guy with his large crew, pointing out that their 3G network is everywhere—including their map. The creepy duo at the desk simply say, "Oh," and the mood shifts to optimistic and satisfied. This is one of the funniest Verizon Wireless commercials.

Phones

BlackBerry Storm

The "Click" commercial shows off the capabilities of the BlackBerry Storm. You click to choose items on a menu, scroll easily, and don't get the annoying "wrong letters" as you're trying to type. Click the screen and get the feeling that you're typing on a keyboard. That means you get a bigger screen without having a bulky, large phone; you don't have to use a traditional keyboard.

There is a second commercial for the BlackBerry Storm that demonstrates the accuracy that you can still get when typing on the screen rather than a keyboard. It features a close-up of the phone as the owner types a message at an outdoor café. You also get a close-up view of how the screen rotates as you turn the phone.

Other Features

Sports

Because "Hockey fans aren't like other fans," you can watch hockey on VCast or get NHL updates on your phone. The Verizon Wireless commercials for this feature include a man standing outside the nursery with a group of other people. All of a sudden, he bangs on the glass and starts cheering, "Baby! You're awesome! I love you!" and telling his child that he or she owns the nursery. Then he goes on to shout "Loser!" at all the other babies in the room.

Another hockey commercial opens with seductive music and a woman sprinkling rose petals while wearing a French maid costume. She calls for her husband and he enters in hockey gear, saying, "I thought you said fantasy!"

Trial Period

Verizon's 30-day trial period is demonstrated in a "Tryout Wife" commercial featuring a young couple who appears to be very much in love. The young man is asking his girlfriend's father for his blessing in marriage. He says he loves her, that they hope to have children one day, and tells him he's been promoted and that they can buy a house soon. His last question for the father is, "Can I try her out for thirty days?" Verizon is convinced that after thirty days, you'll want their services for the rest of your life.

Final Thoughts

You can almost always count on Verizon Wireless commercials for a quick chuckle and a good demonstration of just what a plan, feature, or phone can do. From funny facial expressions and physical humor to teenage boys ogling beautiful women and lusting after their phone numbers, there's a type of humor for everyone. They won't just make you laugh; they'll make you need a product or feature—in roughly thirty seconds. That's as powerful as their 3G network.
