Verizon Voyager Cell Phone
From LoveToKnow Cellphones
Targeting the same market as the Apple iPhone, the Verizon Voyager cell phone looks like it's going to be an attractive mobile phone that will get fashionistas and tech geeks alike to swoon over its svelte appearance and alluring features.
Verizon Voyager Cell Phone
Destined for the Verizon Wireless cellular network in the United States, the Verizon Voyager cell phone is manufactured by LG Electronics. Keeping in mind that LG is the same company behind the hugely popular Chocolate Phone and the LG enV (also available through Verizon), the Voyager looks like it has all the markings of being a huge hit.
For now, no official statement has been released by either LG Electronics or Verizon Wireless, so most of what you hear on the Internet at this point is hearsay. That said, you can probably expect that the Verizon Voyager cell hone will marry some of the best features from the LG enV with some of the best features from the Apple iPhone.
It's clearly going to be marketed as a messaging phone, so it will be a phone like a Sidekick. This will appeal mostly to the younger demographic, because mature business users are more likely to select something like a BlackBerry Pearl or a Windows Mobile-powered HTC smartphone.
Rumored Features
These features and specifications have not been confirmed by LG Electronics or Verizon Wireless, but they are the best information available at the time this article was written.
From what we hear, the Verizon Voyager cell phone will take on a similar form factor as the LG enV. This means that it will be a flip phone, but not in the conventional sense, instead opening from a side-mounted hinge. It will resemble a small book, in this way, but when opened, the Voyager is to be held horizontally. Unlike the LG enV, however, the front face will not come with a numeric keypad.
Instead, most of the front face will be covered in a large touchscreen display, similar to the iPhone. This external display has a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels, and will likely grant you access to most of the phone's core features through an intuitive, touch-sensitive menu. On the inside of the phone, you'll find a full QWERTY keyboard for easy text entry, as well as 480 x 240 internal display. This display will not be a touchscreen.
The LG Voyager is definitely a camera phone, though it's not clear what is the megapixel count. It is rumored that the on-board camera will be able to record video at a QVGA (320x240) resolution. An integrated MP3 player (and video player) is likely in the cards as well.
LG Voyager Competition
Cell phone technology is progressing at a breakneck pace, and people are replacing their cell phones at an alarming rate. Everyone wants the hottest new handheld and when the LG Voyager finally arrives on the shelves of Verizon Wireless, you can be sure that many text message-savvy individuals will be interested in picking one up.
Among its immediate competition are other similar-minded cell phones:
- T-Mobile Sidekick Slide
- T-Mobile Sidekick LX
- Apple iPhone (AT&T)
- Samsung Blackjack
- BlackBerry Pearl 8130
- HTC Touch and Touch Dual
- Motorola Q9h
