T-Mobile Cell Phones: Company Profile

While many may think that T-Mobile only serves the United States, in truth, it is an international mobile phone operator with business in Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic as well. With Catherine Zeta Jones as their most recognizable spokesperson, T-Mobile prides itself in being the company that helps you "get more from life." And this GSM service provider has got some pretty cool cell phones too!

Exclusive Handsets

  • MDA - This platform, codenamed Wizard, was created by HTC of Taiwan. Although T-Mobile says that the MDA is "exclusive", it is also offered in various international markets as the i-mate KJAM, Qtek 9100, and even in a slightly altered form as the Cingular 8125. As a Windows Mobile-powered device, the T-Mobile MDA comes packed with a whole lot of extra functionality, including a full suite of Microsoft applications. The slide out QWERTY keyboard on the side makes text entry incredibly easy, and the display switches to a landscape orientation when the keyboard is out. Other notable features include built-in Wi-Fi and EDGE, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and a miniSD expansion slot.
  • Samsung t509 - Samsung is known for producing among the world's slimmest phones, and T-Mobile is quick to point out that the t509 is the "thinnest phone ever"... at least available here in North America. A significant rival to the Motorola SLVR, this skinny candybar comes with an integrated camera, Bluetooth, and a retail price that can't be beat (less than $50 after rebates).
  • Motorola PEBL - While T-Mobile may not have the SLVR (the aforementioned Samsung t509 takes care of the slim candybar market for them), they do have the rounder, more subdued clamshell cousin known as the PEBL. Available in green, black, orange and blue, the Motorola PEBL is a quad-band world phone with an internal antenna, Bluetooth wireless technology, and an integrated camera.
  • Sidekick II - Hugely popular among teenagers and those in touch with the hipper side of pop culture, the Sidekick is currently in its second generation, and is appropriately named the Sidekick II. Designed for easy text entry, the QWERTY keyboard is perfect for emails, instant messaging, and text messages. There is even built-in support for AOL IM right out of the box. That said, at the time this article was written (June 2006), the word on the street is that they are discontinuing the Sidekick II, with the Sidekick III taking its place before the end of the year.

Other Cool Mobile Phones

  • BlackBerry 8700g - A hit with business users across the country, the BlackBerry 8700g by Research in Motion (RIM) of Canada is an excellent tool for corporate users on the go. Featuring RIM's signature push email feature, the 8700g grabs your emails in real-time, so you can reply back in an instant using the built-in QWERTY keyboard. Browse the internet, keep up with your schedule, and even make a few calls with this $300 (after rebates) device.
  • Motorola RAZR V3 - It's a little unfortunate that the version of the RAZR that T-Mobile carries is the most basic of the bunch. They do not have the V3i, V3x, or V3m, rather opting for the simple V3. Available in either magenta or silver, the quad-band Motorola RAZR V3 has a basic VGA camera with 4x digital zoom, Bluetooth wireless technology, and the skinny flipping form factor that has everyone jumping on board.
