Prepaid Slider Cell Phones
From LoveToKnow Cellphones
Prepaid slider cell phones can offer you just as much as a contract phone as far as technology goes. Sliders have a top half that slides up with a push of the thumb. Underneath that portion is usually a keyboard or other buttons that can control different features, like music selection if you have one that also doubles as an MP3 player.
Popular Prepaid Slider Cell Phones
Virgin Mobile's Slider Sonic Remix
The Virgin Mobile Slider Sonic is rich in features in a nice, small package. Upon first look, you will notice the 2-inch, easy-to-see screen. This makes navigating the circle-style menu a snap. When the slider is closed, there is a 5-way navigation button (similar to the iPod's menu selector), a talk and send button, and a back button. They are situated well and simple to manipulate. Underneath the slider is the keyboard. It's not awkward and feels substantial as your fingers do their business. The Sonic is a great prepaid multimedia phone as well. You can play MP3/WMAs, take photos and send them, and even take videos. You can even save your stuff onto a TransFlash media card if you need more space. Unfortunately, you can't transfer any photos or videos taken with the phone via the card. This prepaid slider cell phone is a great addition to Virgin Mobile's family.
Kyocera Slider MTV Edition
A little bit heftier than the Slider Sonic, the Slider MTV Edition does seem sturdier because of it. The screen is your basic 65,000 color screen and though you can assign pictures to contacts in your phone, they are Virgin Mobile provided and they are cartoons. Some of basic features are a calculator, polyphonic ringtones, and voice-activated dialing. When the slider is closed, you have buttons that seem to be common on slider phones: a 4-way selector dial, and a talk and end button. One of the best features was that you could not accidentally do anything when the slider was closed. If you wanted to talk or even turn off the phone, you have to open the slider.
Sony Ericsson W580i Walkman Slider
Sometimes trying to combine a phone and MP3 player into one unit is a hard task. There never seems to be a good balance. The Sony W580i Walkman Slider closes the gap a little bit. The Walkman Slider is first a music player and then a phone. Why? Because the main features of the player overshadow the phone functions. From the easy navigation of the music player to Sony's software you use to transfer music, it's easy to see how much Sony put into it.
The phone is adequate enough and gets good reception on Cingular's network. The slider portion has your normal buttons plus a 'W' that takes you to the music player. When you operate the slider, you reveal a simple looking keypad. There is enough room on the left and right that Sony could have made the buttons larger because big fingers may have a hard time pushing the buttons without pushing two at a time. The 2.0 megapixel camera is substandard. Pictures are blurry and the camera seems to have a hard time utilizing available light. While the megapixel quality should be there, Sony left any good things about the camera on the backburner. If you want a good music player first and decent phone second, then the Sony Ericsson W580i Walkman Slider is for you.
Samsung t629 Prepaid Slider Cell Phone
Though lightweight, the Samsung t629 prepaid slider cell phone's design is a little bit old school. This probably wasn't done on purpose and that is one of the phone's negatives. Otherwise, you get a large 2.2-inch screen that is very colorful and a 1.3 megapixel camera loaded with features you get on the cheaper digital cameras like 10x digital zoom, lighting modes, and shooting modes. The Samsung is also an MP3 player and you can expand the memory for extra songs by using a microSD card. You also get the Bluetooth feature for headsets and file transfer, which is rare on phones that use prepaid service.
Variations
There are many prepaid phones out there, but slider phones seem to have the market of cool and sleek right now. Most carriers have some kind of prepaid service and a few phones to choose from. Kyocera is a popular phone for the Virgin Mobile network, which seems to be a very popular service. If you are looking for slider phones for a different network, you just have to figure out what features you want.
