PDA to Cell Phone Software
From LoveToKnow Cellphones
Getting PDA to cell phone software is something that a lot of people want these days, because we are quickly moving toward a paper-less society. As such, with everyone carrying around a mobile phone, they want to pack as much functionality in that handheld device as possible. Adding PDA organizer applications is akin to the proliferation of camera phones and music phones.
Get your life in order with some excellent software that will bring PDA functions to your cell phone!
Smartphone Software is Best
If you want the most powerful solution possible, then you will most definitely want to look into getting what is called a smartphone. In essence, a smartphone is a mobile phone that has the ability to install third-party programs, much like how you can install a variety of software on your home computer. You can see how something like this could be much more versatile than a conventional phone.
Some of the most popular smartphones and PDA phones include the Samsung Blackjack, HTC Smartphones and the Palm Treo. Technically speaking, both the Apple iPhone and the BlackBerry are not smartphones because they have severe restrictions in terms of the installation of third-party software.
- Windows Mobile: If you've got a PDA phone that runs on Windows Mobile -- like the T-Mobile MDA, Cingular 8525 or the Motorola Q -- your phone already has a powerful scheduler function built right in! Best of all, you can synchronize your mobile calendar with the one you use with Microsoft Outlook on your computer, ensuring that you are always the most up to date on your, well, dates.
- Symbian: Smartphones produced by Nokia and other companies typically run on an operating system called Symbian. There is a large developer community for this platform, and as such, you can find a huge range of PDA-style programs to run on your Symbian cell phone. Be sure to check that the application is compatible with your particular version of Symbian before downloading or buying.
- Linux: Although less popular than Windows Mobile or Symbian, Linux is also a great option for having a cell phone with PDA software. Certain imported Motorola smartphones, for example, run on Linux. It is an open-source format, so anyone can create new programs for it (and they do).
PDA Software for Regular Mobile Phones
Unfortunately, if you have a "normal" mobile phone such as the RAZR, then it is much more difficult to get your hands on some custom PDA cell phone software. This is because you typically cannot install "outside" programs, other than Java-based cell phone games.
Thankfully, most phones these days come with a rudimentary organizer that you can use, but these are much less feature-packed that their smartphone counterparts.
Where to Find PDA to Cell Phone Software
Mobile software is nearly as easy to find as programs for your PC! Here are a few sites to get you started:
- Smartphone.net: As its name implies, this Web site caters specifically to smartphones, providing all sorts of programs for business, as well as utilities, travel, entertainment and yes, PDA-style organizers too.
- Mobile9: The variety of mobile phone downloads here is quite a bit more vast, expanding into other arenas like wallpapers and ringtones. The smartphone software collection is equally impressive.
- Handango: One of the most recognized developers of mobile software, Handango has been around developing programs for many years. Use the navigation bar on the left side of the site to choose your platform -- Windows Mobile, Palm, BlackBerry, etc. -- and then surf through the available options. There are lots.
