New iPhone 4G
From LoveToKnow Cellphones
With the recent release of the iPhone 3GS, many people are already starting to imagine what the new iPhone 4G could be like. Bloggers and tech fans have concept iPhone 4G phones up online already. Will Apple take notes and give them what they want? June 2010 may hold the answer but no information about a future iPhone has been released just yet.
A Look at the iPhone 3G S
Before going any further, a look at the iPhone 3G S, the newest iPhone as of the summer of 2009, may help you with your daydreams of the new 4G iPhone. Among the features on the iPhone 3GS are the following:
- A 3-megapixel autofocus camera
- The ability to record video with thirty frames per second (and then edit them on your phone)
- Compass with map reorientation
- Voice control that works with your songs and calls
- 7.2 Mbps HSDPA high-speed wireless data
- Up to two times faster and more responsive than the iPhone 3G
- The ability to cut, copy, and paste from one program to another
- Landscape keyboard by just rotating the phone
Of course there are plenty of other things the new iPhone can do. So what's left for the iPhone 4G?
Proposed Features for the New iPhone 4G
Plenty of bloggers out there are daydreaming about the next iPhone. MobileWhack.com suggests that the phone be made of titanium and glass with the camera on front so that iChat is possible. The camera could be improved upon. There would also be GPS (an improvement from the aGPS/compass/map combination), a removable battery, and an OLED screen.
Gizmodo.com thinks the next iPhone will be a hybrid of the MacBook Air and iPod Touch. The design, from the side, is tapered and not flat. This site, too, suggests that the 3G S could be improved upon by adding a camera to the front of the phone for iChat videoconferencing.
Many of the concept 4G iPhones follow in the footsteps of the MacBook Air and are unbelievably thin.
What Does 4G Mean?
If Apple releases a 4G phone in the future, there is speculation about whether they will actually release it on a 4G network. Verizon seems to be ahead of the competition when it comes to getting a 4G network up and running, so some iPhone fans are hopeful that this means Verizon customers may finally get to use the iPhone.
What would a 4G network achieve? Speed. Want to stream videos in real time and send and receive data almost instantly? Hope to one day load Web pages on your phone as quickly as you can on your computer? 4G just might deliver exactly what you want. Combine that with an improved, faster iPhone, and what more could anyone want?
"4G" is sometimes referred to as "beyond 3G" or "fourth generation" technology. Don't expect to be able to use it, though, before 2012 at the earliest. This suggests that the new iPhone 4G won't actually be named for its capability to function on a 4G network if it comes out next year. The next iPhone may not be called the 4G at all.
A Final Word
If you still have the iPhone 3G and you're eagerly awaiting the new iPhone 4G, have a look at the iPhone 3G S to see if the differences are enough to make you want an upgrade. Since there has been no report of an actual new iPhone 4G yet, it might just get you by. In the meantime, do a little daydreaming of your own for the "perfect" 4G phone. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing what Apple has up its sleeve for the next iPhone or if it will even be called the 4G.
