If you happen to be a big fan of Coldplay, the Jonas Brothers, or Kelly Clarkson, you can express you enthusiasm for these artists with a themed background image on your phone. The same can be said of video game fans who may want to have video game ringtones featuring sounds from Super Mario Bros.
Another reason why you may want to change your cell phone wallpaper is not so much about personal expression as much as it is about ease of use. If the default background makes the text difficult to read, it may be a good idea to switch your mobile phone's backgrounds to something that makes the user interface a little more legible.
Doing More with Your Mobile Phone's Backgrounds
In continuing with this idea, it is important to remember that for a lot of phones, it's not just about the wallpaper. You may have to do a little bit of searching online and you may have to read a few tutorials, but it is well worth it to consider uploading some special cell phone themes. Many of these are free to download and they can do a lot more than just a simple wallpaper image.
With a lot of themes, you change the look and feel of the phone altogether. You may get new icons, a new font, and even new ringtones. Depending on the nature of your handset, themes can go even further than that.
For example, certain free BlackBerry themes completely alter the user interface. Instead of having a home screen with just one row of icons docked at the bottom of the screen, you can have two or three. Another theme may display upcoming appointments right on the main screen, rather than forcing you to go into the calendar application to view them. Some fun themes change your mobile phone's backgrounds, but they also change the feel of it too. There is a BlackBerry theme that mimics the look of the iPhone!
The same thing happens with a lot of smartphones (including the iPhone) and the various themes that are available for them. This includes Symbian-powered handsets from Nokia, Windows Mobile phones from HTC, and even the increasingly popular Google Android phone. The point is that you can not only make your phone your own; you can maximize its utility to suit your needs and preferences.
