There are an abundance of both paid and free cell phone ringtones that you can load onto your cell phone. Among the most popular songs that get a lot of play on radio, as well as more obscure offerings like Starsplash ringtones. However, a great way to spread holiday cheer is through Christmas ringtones and when this time of year rolls around, we can't help but sing about the snow, the lights, and the promise of Santa making his rounds.

There are many popular Christmas ringtones, but they can roughly be broken down into two main categories: religious and non-religious. Generally speaking, religious Christmas carols have a decidedly slower pace and may not be as energetic as traditional ringtones. This is true of some non-religious carols as well. It is largely a matter of personal preference, but more subdued ringtones can be more difficult to hear in noisy environments.

No one can beat the price of free. From free Nokia themes to free cell phone wallpaper, there is an abundance of free cell phone content available on the Internet. The same can be said about finding free cell phone ringtone resources online.

Before you head out to a random Web site and start downloading content, however, there are a few things that you'll need to keep in mind. Not all Web sites are safe and the free files that you are downloading may not necessarily be virus-free. Be sure to stick to respectable websites and even if you download from other sources, run a thorough virus scan before playing any of the MP3 or MIDI files. Also, sites that seem to be giving away content for free aren't always completely free. They may collect personal information or they may try to trick you into a paid subscription service. Be sure to read carefully.

With that in mind, you'll find that most places that have free ringtones will have a section with Christmas ringtones. On the flip side, sites that offer free Christmas downloads may have a cell phone ringtones for download as well. One site that I liked was FreeChristmasScreensavers.com. The cell phone ringtones have already been truncated for length.

If you're willing to pay for Christmas ringtones, most major cell phone providers have a service that lets you download ringtones directly to your cell phone. This is probably the easiest way to get musical ringtones, but it can also be the most costly. With T-Mobile, for example, they have an entire section on their site talking about HiFi Ringers, CallerTunes and more.
