New Cell Phone Games Always Available

Cell phone games are rising in popularity every year in the United States and also all over the world. The days of cell phones simply being devices used to make phone calls are over. Now, cell phones can be used for many other purposes including surfing the internet, sending e-mail, and playing all sorts of interactive games. With each passing year, a cell phone's ability to be used for these other purposes is getting more and more technologically advanced.

When are Games Played?

Most new cell phones come with a few games already installed. Some people find that these pre-installed games are satisfactory and they don't feel a need to ever upgrade or acquire new or different ones. However, there are many others who are cell phone game addicts and truly enjoy using their phone to play games during any spare moment during the course of a day.

People like to hold their phones. They've gotten in such a habit of being in constant physical contact with their cell phones that it has become difficult to put them down. So, it seems that when there is not a call to make or be answered on a cell phone, many people are using their cell phones as entertainment tools. When there's a few minutes to spare, such as during a bus or subway ride, or while waiting for a red light to turn green, people are turning to their cell phone games to help make the time pass in a more entertaining way.

New Games and Upgrades

Most cell phones come with pre-installed games. However, for people who get true enjoyment out of challenging new games, there are several novel titles and upgraded game versions available on many different internet sites. While some of these internet sites charge a few dollars to download each new game or upgrade, there are others that allow people to download games for no charge at all.

Many cell phone companies, such as Cingular and Verizon also offer game downloads, but they aren't free. The process of obtaining a new game from a cell phone company works like this:

  1. A cellular subscriber logs on to their cell phone company's website
  2. A game is chosen
  3. The subscriber enters some information (such as cell phone or account number)
  4. The company sends the games to the subscriber
  5. The subscriber downloads and executes the game program
  6. The cell phone company then charges the subscriber for the games on his or her monthly cellular bill.

Free is Not Really Free

When people see that something is "free", such as free cell phone games, the tendency is to become excited that something is going to be given to them for nothing! However, in the case of obtaining things for free via the internet, it's smart to take a close look at the fine print.

Most websites that offer anything for free only do so only after the person who will obtain the free item or service has input a large amount of personal information into the free website's system.

For example, if a free cell phone game is wanted by someone, the website offering it will undoubtedly request that person's cell phone number, e-mail address, and possibly even a home address. The website offering the free item or service will most likely use the submitted personal information to transmit "junk mail" or "spam" to that person’s e-mail address or cellular phone number.

Popular Cell Phone Game Developers

Just as there are many companies out there that create video games for the Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo GameCube, there are several that also work on developing innovative new titles for your cell phone as well. Some of the more popular developers and publishers include:

  • Glu Mobile: Developed such games as Inuyasha, FOX Sports Yao Ming Basketball, and Zuma.
  • Gameloft: Titles include Chessmaster, Midnight Pool, and Tom Clancy's Rainbox Six.
  • Electronic Arts: Makers of Madden NFL, Need for Speed, and other popular franchises.
