Alltel Cell Phones

From LoveToKnow Cellphones

Alltel Wireless is the largest regional mobile phone company in the United States, with a particular focus on small to medium-sized cities, rather than major metropolitan areas. Based out of Little Rock, Arkansas, Alltel provides direct service to between 35 and 37 states, but they also have extensive roaming agreements with other CDMA-based service providers to ensure that their customers are well covered even when outside of the Alltel network. This includes deals with Verizon Wireless and Sprint-Nextel, as well as Canadian providers.

Alltel Network Technology

Alltel cell phones are largely CDMA (800/1900) based, though many of their older handsets are still running on the analog AMPS network. By combining their analog and digital (CDMA) footprints, Alltel can claim to have the largest network in the United States (based on geographical area and not on number of subscribers).

Alltel is currently working to phase out the analog AMPS part of their service as they must adhere to an FCC decision that states that analog must be completed removed by March 1, 2008.

Best Known For...

Alltel cell phones are perhaps not best known for their incredible specs, but rather for the great service that they provide. One of the most popular calling features with Alltel Wireless is "My Circle", wherein you can have unlimited incoming and outgoing minutes with up to ten numbers, regardless of which network they are connected to. This chosen list of friends and family can include home, work, and wireless phone numbers.

Alltel Cell Phones

Alltel carries a wide range of cell phones from a number of different international manufacturers. Most of their handsets take on the popular clamshell form factor, but in addition to the flip phones, they also carry a slider, a few candybars, and even smartphones.

Some of the most popular Alltel cell phones are made by such giants in the industry as Motorola, Research in Motion (makers of the BlackBerry), and Samsung.

Here is a small sample of Alltel's cell phones:

Note: This list is meant to be a guide only. Please confirm with your local Alltel dealer before making any purchasing decisions.

  • MOTOKRZR K1m: The successor to the hugely successful MOTORAZR (or just RAZR, for short), the KRZR K1m boasts Bluetooth technology, a 1.3 megapixel camera, touch sensitive media keys, and an integrated music player. This is one of the newest and hottest phones around.
  • Kyocera Strobe K612B: For those of you in the audience who spent a little too much time text messaging, the Strobe can make your life a whole lot easier thanks to its integrated QWERTY keyboard. There is also a camera with flash, as well as Bluetooth.
  • Pantech PN-218: Pantech may not be particularly well known in the United States (yet), but they are huge in their home country of Korea. This flip phone is about as small as it gets, but despite its diminutive stature, you get a decent set of features including voice activated dialling, speakerphone, and an integrated camera.
  • Samsung U420: If sliders are more your thing, then this Alltel cell phone is right up your alley. The slick black exterior is backed up with the usual suite of specs including a camera, Bluetooth, and speakerphone.
  • BlackBerry 7130e: Business users need powerful business tools, especially when they're on the go. This smartphone rocks Research in Motion's signature SureType keypad, as well as Push Email, Bluetooth, and several personal information management (PIM) tools..
